The Real
This body of work is inspired by the history of my own scars, from both a traumatic and self-harm perspective.
I wanted to photograph a variety of scars with a broad range in their severity and significance.
I chose to do this to gauge emotional responses to them and to see if the larger scars would cause a bigger reaction or if they would all be considered equal.
The concept was that even a tiny scar could have a huge impact on someone's life. The concept was to photograph "The Real" to demonstrate the very personal relationship people have with their own scars and the situations that caused them.
All of these images were taken on Black & White 35mm film, and some were overlayed onto notes from the subjects, who described their scars, how they were made, and the feelings & emotions they had about them.
